Projects

Where’bouts is a location scouting company based out of New York City and working across the US and internationally. They have worked in commercial and print advertising for decades alongside some of the biggest names in technology, fashion and entertainment. They came to us in need of a simple yet unique new brand that represented both where they are from and what they do. We designed and developed an identity rooted in New York, with its globally recognized street signage as key inspiration. Alongside the branding we developed a front facing public website, client portal for viewing and bookmarking locations, and scout backend to upload and manage thousands of locations and hundreds of thousands of images. Our tech stack included NextJs and DatoCMS.

Where'bouts

After years of working with Rowayton Seafood, from their branding to website, signage, apparel, they came to us with an idea: a coffee table cookbook. We worked in creative direction and design alongside longtime collaborator and lead photographer for the book, Morgan Ione. And at the helm of this project, Barbara Conroy. From naming to concepts, logo and identity, design, editing, printing, marketing and sales, we worked on every aspect of this project to insure the precision and quality of this 276 page book. 

The first batch of 1,000 copies was sold in the first three weeks of a pre-launch sale. Soon following was the next thousand books printed and shipped by boat from Portugal to New York. 

A project of this scope and timeline only works with a passionate team. It’s the concept that drives it, like the stories from anglers and harvesters to simply prepared recipes from the Rowayton Seafood family. And it’s the details that give it character, like the small dot below the “a” in “salt” and following in the 10 chapters, each covering a species.

A Touch of Salt

*González & González is a place that turns back time, that allows us to surround ourselves with timeless simplicity*. 

This tiny little shop – located on the classic street of Calle de Pelayo in Madrid – has gained a reputation across the globe, shared countless number of times on instagram and pinterest and featured in magazines and coffee table books – it is a destination location. 

Through our friend and collaborator Filipa Alves, Javi and Maria Rosa – G&G founders – reached out to design and build a custom ecommerce experience. Their brand and identity had been beautifully established by Marta Botas, which we used and adapted for a digital environment, along with supporting on fonts, graphics and content. We also worked alongside Filipa to photograph all of their products for the online store in the context of *Casa González & González*, an old carpenters workshop that was redesigned into an short-stay apartment with the essense and products from the store.

Fairfax Dorn Projects is an Interior Design Collective dedicated to exploring the relationship between art and furniture. With the vision of an exhibition space in East Hampton, the team approached us with the need for a website that was an extension of their practice. 

We designed the website with a very typographic approach, and ensured that each page embodied the character of its offering.

Fairfax Dorn Projects

In 2021 long-time friend Patricia Teixeira told us about her new company, Moncat. Moncat, closely tied to the well-established Tipografia, runs the production of a single-style tshirt and prints designs for companies both large and small. Their production space is located in Porto, Portugal. Alongside our friend Hugo Vale, we designed and developed a website that we can only describe as “simple on the outside, complex on the inside.” You come to the site and a model walks on screen wearing a certain color of tshirt. The user then can change the color of shirt, triggering the model to leave the screen and then come back wearing the color tshirt that you selected. The color is linked to a video database and Shopify. 

We developed the concept along with organizing a one day video and photo shoot with friend and collaborator André Martins from Point and Shoot. 




Moncat

Culinary Nutritionist Stefanie Sacks aproached us to bring her new platform to life, as an extention of her book “What the Fork are You Eating”. Our goal was to readapt the pre-existing name and develop a brand that carries her “credible, accessible, digestible and actionable food solutions” through all digital platforms. 

Stefanie Sacks is a nationally recognized Culinary Nutritionist, author, educator, speaker, consultant, and leading authority on eating to prevent illness and restore health. The idea of a platform to host her work and philosophy had been slowly manifesting over the last decade, when in 2022  she came to us to with the challenge of building it, from ground up. This meant starting with the name itself, creating a new voice, brand logo and identity, print collateral and a custom website with both public facing recipes and news articles, alongside a complex members space that hosts courses with video streaming, workshops, retreats and products. 

WTFork

Founded by Filipa Alves in 2022, Flórida Studio brings to life a cross-pollination of ideas between designers and makers, hosting a collection of handmade objects, home goods, apparel, vintage and art, alongside offerings in floral design installation and events. The brand reminds us that the creative spirit comes to life when you follow your heart while believing in the strength of collaboration.


We’ve had the honor to know Filipa for over a decade, when one might say that the first seeds for Flórida were planted. Over the last year we were able to conceptualize and build the brand from ground up, creating a new logo identity, signage, posters, other print application, creative direction and a custom ecommerce store.

# Flowers

Flórida works with a variety of natural materials, like seasonal and preserved flowers, handmade objects, and often organic materials that are simply find along the way. Flowers are visible in much of the print material, and found even in Gif’s of the “ó” from the logo. Even the background colors of all product photography and pages carry a floral tone.

# Studio

Photography brings to life the story of the studio, where portraits of makers and collaborators are taken by Filipa herself. This demonstrates the importance of human interaction and handmade craft.

Flórida Studio

BMA works in *the art of subtraction, accentuating the botanical beauty of woody plants*. Their work in the garden offers a poetic vision on how people can treat nature as an art form. 

After having worked on their brand and website, the team at BMA engaged us to make a promotional book to capture that same artistic core of their work. The concept included multiple layers of print items that all fit into eachother to create a complete experience of BMA, including 1) a minimalist folder wrapped with illustration which holds 2) a photographic/illustrative booklet, alongside 3) field guides on postcards and a 4) posterto outline the company process and core values. 

BMA — The Art of Subtraction

Longtime friend and creative collaborator Ben Potter has screened his film, The Rolling East, at multiple film festivals and public spaces over the last six months. It comprised years of footage, direction and drive on his part to create this visually stunning piece that highlights surfing in New York. We were honored to work with Ben on the logo, identity and poster for this film in the spring of 2022, led by friend and collaborator Hugo Vale.

Designing a poster for The Rolling East meant bringing all of these ideas together into one image. Stones and dunes pulled from selected scenes from the movie create an outlined frame, emphasizing the raw nature you feel in the film itself. The fonts used are Krasz and GT Pressura Mono, from [Nice to Type](https://nicetotype.de/) and [Grilli Type](https://www.grillitype.com/), respectively. This choice was an attempt to reflect the idea of the city and its modernity, while trying to suit the complexity of the movie's soundtrack by Gitkin.

The Rolling East

‘I grew up in a dive bar. Not just any dive bar though. It’s the smallest bar in the world putting on major national acts. Over 65 Members of the Rock n’Roll hall of fame have played here and a host of famous atletes, movie starts, amnd politicians have been here. But you’d never know it. It’s a place where everyone is equal and accepted. A place where you can show up in board shorts or a tuxedo and it’s all the same. I’ve seen ex-boyfriends’ local bands fill the room and Coldplay do the same. It’s a sanctuary that has comforted so many through good times, heartbreaks, and all the moments in between.’ - Ruby Honerkamp, founder of Talkhouse Encore

**Talkhouse [THE BAR]** has been a landmark for generations. This small, unassuming bar has brought unprecedented talent to the East End - from Billy Joel to Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters - and no-one describes it as Ruby Honerkamp, daughter of the owner and now founder of the drink that bottles up all the energy of the bar. 

**Talkhouse Encore [THE DRINK]** was born on October 2020 right in the middle of the pandemic, a way of keeping the family legacy alive even when the doors where closed and the stage lights where off.

Together with the design team from [Reference](https://referencenyc.com/), Ruby and family have created a brand the embodies “music in a can” and “play forever”. We created the Talkhouse Encore website to match this spirited approach. 

Talkhouse Encore

Montauk Seafood Company is owned and operated by Wes Peterson. At this local market, it is just as much about the whole fishing experience as it is about seafood. And above all, it is about Montauk.

The core concept of its logo and brand needed to be seen through the eyes of fishermen, with Montauk always present . While not the most commonly recognized, flags are a part of the day-to-day of those who work and live at sea. The whole brand is inspired by the boldness of flags and the statement of stencil typography.

From there, design and content tell the rest of their story, applied to signage, cards, website and instagram. 

Montauk Seafood

Sheila White & Bill Schefferine first formed Stellar Union in their Brooklyn loft in 2001 when their son Ray was born. As artists and designers they had always searched the stores and sidewalks for the most unusual, eclectic finds to contrast and complement the clean lines of modernism. They opened their main location in 2004 in Southampton.

We created a minimalist ecommerce website to host over 200 items while maintaining easy search and UX. On this fast, light-weight interface, product pages popout from right to left, creating a sense that you never leave the main page. 

Stellar Union

Rowayton Seafood is a family business and legacy landmark found at the mouth of the Five Mile Rive in Rowayton, CT. What started with a simple dream in 1978, has found its way into the minds of people from every corner of the country.

The Market resides in an old fishing shack that was once the oldest operating Lobster Co-Op on the Long Island Sound. The market was purchased in 1978 by Kevin Conroy, followed by the restaurant next door in 1996. Kevin and his family are avid fishermen and can be found regularly returning to the docks from off shore fishing adventures.

Over the years the Market and Restaurant became visually recognized and known in different ways: “The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood,” “The Restaurant,” Rowayton Seafood Market,” “Rowayton Market,” and more. Our challenge was to establish the common brand name of “Rowayton Seafood,” while creating a sense of sub-branding for the market and restaurant. This new brand honors the story of Rowayton Seafood, a visual celebration comprised of a new logo, voice, visual language and print and digital application. It celebrates forty-four years of family, community, authenticity and of course, seafood.
